Solemnisation and Registration of Marriage

Under the Foreign Marriage Act of 1969, the Embassy solemnises marriages outside India, where at least one of the applicants is an Indian. Applicants may contact the Consular Wing of the Embassy for assistance along with the following:

  • Notice for intended marriage (4 copies)
  • Declaration (by prospective bride and bridegroom in duplicate by each
  • Sworn Affidavit by prospective bride and bridegroom (in duplicate by each)
  • Declaration of intention  to marry through an affidavit as per Performa.
  • 4 (four) identical passport size recent photographs by each
  • At least one of the parties must have residence visa of Oman.

If one of the parties is other than Indian, No Objection Certificate /Affidavit (in respect of individual regarding his/her marital status and willingness to marry an Indian) from the concerned Embassy and the same should be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman.

All the five persons are required to appear before  the Marriage Officer for signatures with their original passport and a photocopy both at the time of submission of form and at the time of solemnization of the Marriage (photocopy required only at the time of submission of form). A copy of the Notice for intended marriage will be displayed on the Embassy notice board for 30 days.

After submission of form, Newspaper advertisement is to be given by the individuals in local English Newspaper as well as English Newspaper in the place of permanent residence indicated in the Passport in India/concerned country.

Registration of Marriage

Marriage can be registered at the Embassy of India, Muscat by producing the following documents:

Original and a copy of the Marriage Certificate attested by Waqf Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oman. A Copy of the Marriage Certificate

Original and Copy of the passport of both the Spouses (Passport should be valid with resident Visa). If one of the Spouse belongs to a different nationality the documents should be got attested by the Embassy of that country followed by attestation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman.

  • Affidavit Form
  • Personal letter
  • Two photographs each

Registration of Birth at the Indian Embassy

Parents holding Indian passports should register birth of their children born in Oman with the Embassy in Muscat at the earliest possible date.

For registration of birth and obtaining new passport, required forms for registration of birth, issue of birth certificate and passport are to be duly filled and submitted.

If an application for passport is made after one year of the birth of the child, the case will have to be referred to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Indian Citizenship Section, 26, Jaisalmer House, Mansingh Road, New Delhi-110011, in the prescribed application form for getting approval. Procedure for getting approval in such cases from MHA takes considerable time. It is, therefore, advised that parents holding Indian passports should register birth of their children born in Oman with the Embassy of India, Muscat within the prescribed period of one year without fail.

Application in EAP – I form is to be duly filled in and signed by both parents. Left hand thumb impression of the child should be affixed in the signature boxes.

  • Birth Registration Form is to be submitted.
  • Sworn Affidavit of parents is to be submitted
  • Two latest identical passport size photographs (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm without border), in plain white back ground and dress in dark colour.
  • Original Birth Certificate (after attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sultanate of Oman) along with a photo copy of the same.

All applicants seeking passport or passport related services are required to be physically present at the time of making application in the Sultanate of Oman and should visit in person at BLS Office in Muscat or its mobile collection centres located at Sur, Sohar, Nizwa, Salalah, Buraimi, Khasab, Jalan bu Ali and Ibri. This is also applicable for minors and new born babies.

Passport copy of  Father & Mother with spouse name endorsement should be submitted.

Registration of Death

In case of death of an Indian national in the Sultanate of Oman, a No Objection Certificate from the Embassy is required for the airlifting or local burial / cremation of the mortal remains. The sponsor of the deceased Indian national should contact the Embassy in this regard along with the following documents:-

  • Sponsor’s letter to the Embassy informing about the death of an Indian national under his sponsorship.
  • Copy of the deceased’s Labour Card.
  • Original Death Certificate and its photocopy
  • Original passport and two photocopies
  • A letter from the next kin of the deceased, intimating their wishes regarding the mortal remains i.e. airlifting to India or burial / cremation in Oman.
